After Donald Trump’s and his supporter’s constant efforts to shift the 2020 US election results around, the cold war took a horrid turn. On Wednesday, the well-armed angry Trump supporters mob attacked the US Capitol Hill and fought with the police just as Congress had gathered to confirm Joe Biden’s presidential win.
The US Congress session was suspended due to the deadly violence but after they were cleared out, Congress later confirmed Joe Biden’s victory. It happened hours after Trump supporters stormed the Capital. A woman was brutally shot when pro-Trump protestors thrashed the barricades and marched inside the halls of the Capitol building. These protestors then smashed the windows and wrestled with the police officers.
What exactly happened at the US Capitol?
The Capitol in Washington DC was placed under lockdown on Wednesday after angry Trump supporters stormed inside the famous building and wreaked havoc in an attempt to stall the certification of the election results.
A rowdy group of protestors who were waving ‘Trump 2020’ flags and had worn hats and T-shirts with ‘Keep America Great’ printed on top of it, fearlessly entered the second-floor lobby of the Capitol which is right outside the Chamber of Senate. The doors of the chamber were being guarded by officials however, the mob managed to get past the guards and entered the Senate Chamber.
‘One of the rioters was seen climbing up on the dais and yelling, “Trump won that election”‘, Reported The Guardian.
What we witnessed yesterday was not dissent — it was disorder.
They weren’t protestors — they were rioters, insurrectionists, and domestic terrorists.
I wish we could say we couldn’t see it coming, but that isn’t true. We could.

These protesters then roamed through the halls openly, some even entered and looted the offices that are used by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other lawmakers. Luckily, the lawmakers from the Senate and the House of Representatives had already been evacuated before the intrusion. Not only did they cause such havoc, but the protestors also posed for photographs and filmed themselves roaming around the important building.
Four hours after the transgression, officials later announced that the protestors were cleared out of the Capitol. Senators were later escorted back into the Senate chamber to complete the certification of electoral college votes. Reported, Reuters.
During this outbreak, four people lost their lives, including one woman who was shot inside the Capitol building. According to Washington DC police, another woman and two men died in separate medical emergencies.
Is Trump behind this attack?
Several congress members are blaming Donald Trump for the violence.
“And after this, we’re going to walk down there, and I’ll be there with you, we’re going to walk down…to the Capitol and we are going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women,” he said. “And we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them. Because you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong.”
Trump has been claiming since the day he lost elections, that the election had been “rigged” by “radical democrats” and the “fake news media”. He has been spotted several times urging his supporters not to accept the results of the election.
“We will never give up. We will never concede. It doesn’t happen. You don’t concede when there’s theft involved,” he said.
Trump’s tweet was not helpful either. He tweeted, “it’s time to go home now”. “I know your pain. I know you’re hurt. We had an election that was stolen from us,” he said in the video, which has since been removed. “It was a landslide election and everyone knows it, especially the other side.”
“But you have to go home now,” he said. “We have to have peace. We have to have law and order. We have to respect our great people in law and order. We don’t want anybody hurt. It’s a very tough period of time, there’s never been a time like this where such a thing happened, where they could take it away from all of us. From me, from you, from our country. This was a fraudulent election, but we can’t play into the hands of these people. We have to have peace. So go home, we love you, you’re very special. You’ve seen what happens, you’ve seen the way others are treated that are so bad and so evil. I know how you feel, but go home and go home in peace.”
