Attendance – One Demon In Every DU Student’s Life

With the exams just round the corner, a major issue that throbs the brains of most of the students currently is- WHETHER THEY WILL BE GETTING THEIR ADMIT CARDS OR NOT. Believe me you, its a complete nightmare to be refrained from giving your semester exams.

Ideally, the attendance criteria depends from college-to-college across the university. The general Demand is of 67% attendance during the respective semester. students are also awarded marks for attending the college like 1 for 70% attendance, 2 for 75% ore more, etc. If a student refrains from the same then each college has a different tactic to deal with it.

However, the majority of the students feel that this attendance restriction mustn’t exist and that the students must be granted the liberty to come to college as and when they like. It also affects the students both mentally and psychologically. However, without going much into the detail of it, the situation that students face in every semester is that quantum of students fail to meet the required criteria. What is even more heartbreaking is that there are a few of them who are not allowed to give their exams.

The repercussion of being barred from giving the exams is that the student has to repeat the semester in order to pass. This leads to a further delay in the future course of actions of the student.

There can be a number of reasons so as to why a student fails to comply with the required attendance. It can be that the student has been preparing for his entrance exams like CAT, UPSC, JAM-IIT or SSC. These reasons can be personal too.

However, there must be certain obligation to attend college that must not be too rigid and unattainable. Also, in my opinion, there can be different requirements for different years of undergraduates. This way, there can be fair and equitable punishments and rewards for all the students. Also, the students must be motivated to attend college rather than forcing them.

Lets just hope that no one is refrained from giving their exams. All the best.
