The ordinance on reservation mechanism for faculties has been approved by the Union Cabinet followed by the direct recruitment in Teacher’s Cadre thereby filling 5000 vacancies in order to re-installing the 200-point roster based reservation system in higher education systems. Under this system, rather universities or college will be deemed as one unit and not any particular department or subject. This system will also ensure protection of the provisions made for SC/ST and Educationally backward class.
“The cabinet has approved proposal for promulgation of The Central Education Institutions (Reservation in Teacher’s Cadre) Ordinance 2019 to provide for the reservation of faculty in appointments by direct recruitment of persona belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Socially and Educationally backward classes (SEBL) in central education institutions and for matters connected there with.” said Union Minister Arun Jaitley.
Also HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that ‚ÄúThe decision will also now pave the way for filling up of more than 5,000 vacancies by direct recruitment in teacher‚Äôs cadre.‚Äù He further stated that a course of protest was carried out by the teachers and students urging the government for re-installing the 200-point roster taking college or university as a one unit.University Grant Commission (UGC) had declared last year in March that to calculate the number of teaching posts for the reserved category, individual department should be deemed following an order by Allahabad High Court in April 2017.”
