It’s necessary for the board to ensure transparency and take a right step as any mistake made by it can just ruin the efforts of the students and leave their future in the air!
This time, the board decided to conduct procedures for verificationi (retotalling) and not re-evaluation and even allows the students to get a photocopy of their answer sheets.
To examplify, there have been two cases of students who applied for verification: Sonali saw her maths marks rise to 95 from 68, while Samiksha Sharma’s marks rose to 90 from 42, an increase of over 100 percent. Unsurprisingly, some students even saw an increase of 40 marks.
The CBSE examinations started late due to Assembly elections in five states and then the results were postponed at the last moment following a high court order.
Also, the court chided the board for its moderation policy, that might make up for the differences in difficulty levels when attempting different sets of question papers on the same subject.
The CBSE officials quote that the number of applications for retotaling was unprecedented and that there could be various reasons for the errors such as incorrect transfer of marks to the first page and detachment of supplementary answer books, among other reasons.
It was also reported that in Bhubaneshwar, marks had actually dipped after verification. The Odisha High Court has asked the board to re-verify the marks.
