Union human resources development minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday said that the Delhi high court ruling on the CBSE’s marks moderation or grace marks policy won’t have any bearing on the declaration date and time of results, according to a news report. The HRD minster also said the board will notify in advance.
“CBSE results will be declared on time, the date will be told by CBSE. No need to worry about the court’s order, justice will be done for all,” CNN-News 18 quoted Javadekar as saying.
Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday said it will not declare the Class 12 board results at least in the next two days.
“It’s not coming today or tomorrow,” a CBSE spokesperson said, clearing some confusion for nearly 1.1 million students but extending the wait for the results of the Class 12 board exam in March-April.
The results were to be will be announced on 24 May, but the Delhi high court’s directive to CBSE to follow its “moderation policy” of giving grace marks to students for difficult questions created confusion. The court asked CBSE to continue with the policy which was in place when the examination forms were submitted last year.
The CBSE Class 12 results will be declared on the board’s websites cbse.nic.in and cbseresults.nic.in.
A bench of acting chief justice Gita Mittal and Justice Pratibha M.Singh passed the interim order on a PIL filed by a parent and a lawyer contending that the policy should not be done away with this year, as decided by some states, since it would affect the students of Class 12, particularly those who have applied for admissions abroad.
The CBSE had announced an end the moderation policy as it believed that inflating marks is only adding stress to students at the college and university level.
The human resource development minister Prakash Javadekar met CBSE officials on Wednesday on the high court order. Though, there was no formal communication on the outcome from the ministry, a ministry official said that the CBSE will continue the policy but instead of giving a certain amount of marks to everyone in key subjects, CBSE may give grace mark for “very difficult” questions in different subjects.
The official said, however, said that the results are likely to be announced by weekend and they cannot delay it further.
CBSE board exams started a week late this year due to assembly elections in five states.
