Commerce Association of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College hosted the fourth edition of its annual case study competition – Contrivance 2018 on 3rd October 2018. In Contrivance, the participants are encouraged to select a business case study on their own within the premises of a generic theme. In the first, second and third edition of the event, the themes for selecting the case study were “Marketing Challenges”, “Strategic Management in Business” and “Customer Engagement: Strategies and Challenges” respectively. While this year, the theme was “Entrepreneurship in a Changing Global Environment”. The theme was selected with the belief that students will be able to see how far and fast global business has stepped up to play a leading role in striving to improve the state of our world and how it can further progress.
In Contrivance 2018, participants were required to prepare a case study under the ambit of the mentioned theme and form an analysis and solution for the case. The event was organised over two rounds. The first round was an online preliminary round and the selected top 6 teams made it to the final round where they were to give presentations to a panel of judges.
The event drew participation from over twenty five colleges of Delhi University and various other colleges of Delhi-NCR. The judges for the event were Dr. Ekta Singhal, Assistant Professor of Marketing at Fortune Institute of International Business (FIIB) and Dr. K.K. Upadhyay, Alumnus of Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA). Business Stock Exchange (BSE) was the proud sponsor of this event, Laxmi chand and Sons and Wafl were the Food Partners, DU Express and DU Beat were the Media Partners, Feelmaax was the Printing Partner and Bonzai 5D was the Gaming Partner.
The event started with addresses by the Principal, Dr. P.K. Khurana, the Convenor of Commerce Association, Dr. Ruchi Gupta, the teacher-in-charge of Department of Commerce and the judges. This was followed by the inauguration of our third edition of the newsletter and a brief about the society by Raghav Khatri, President of Commerce Association. The participants then proceeded with the presentations of their cases. Each presentation was followed by a series of questions from the jury. The judges were fascinated by the idea of graduate students having done these case studies on important such scenarios and encouraged the participants with their words of wisdom. Even the participants were very excited and were seen interacting with the judges and taking their valuable inputs.
The first prize was bagged by Simran from Hindu College who was awarded a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and a sterling trophy. Her case study and analysis was on Freeletics. The second prize went to Aniket Singh from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College while the third position was secured by Anuj Sharma and Upanshu Mahawar from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. Their case studies were on Swiggy and Tesla respectively. The winners were also awarded coupons by our Food Partner – Wafl and Gaming Partner – Bonzai 5D. The participants and winners appreciated the management and organisation of the event which made Contrivance a success.
