Commerce Association,Shaheed Bhagat Singh College Organizes A Successful Uddayam’18

The Commerce Association of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College hosted the 8th edition of its annual commerce fest Uddayam on 8th and 9th February 2018. The two-day fest was attended by 1200 students from colleges all across Delhi University and from other universities in NCR as well. The term Uddayam means ‘entrepreneurship’ as the association strongly believes  “A true entrepreneur is one who is a doer and not just a dreamer”  and all the events were hosted in synchronisation with the theme to motivate the budding entrepreneurs.

The fest started with the inauguration ceremony by Dr.P.K Khurana , Principal, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Dr.Shyam Sunder, Senior-most faculty member, Department of Commerce, Dr.Harish Handa, Teacher-in-charge, Department of Commerce and Dr.Ruchi Gupta, Convenor, Commerce Association. This was followed by a marvelous performance by Aayush Kumar and Anmol Sethi, who cherished everyone’s souls with their singing. The principal gave the inaugural address and congratulated the members of Commerce Association for always putting up a great show. The president, Ambika Joshi, apprised about the association and talked about the future projects of Commerce Association. The ceremony concluded with Dr.Ruchi Gupta proposing a formal vote of thanks followed by the group photograph of faculty members and students to capture the beautiful moment for the years to come.

Following the inaugural ceremony, the much-awaited events started. An array of events was hosted this year. While some events were adapted from the previous editions of Uddayam, owing to their grand success, two brand new events were introduced this year-

Innozest: The Paper Presentation Competition which was based on the theme-‘Evolution of Social Entrepreneurship Over a Decade in India’ and provided a platform for young researchers to show case their talent, and Rangmanch: The Street Play Competition reflecting societal issues that need immediate attention where College of Vocational Studies , Miranda House and Institute of Home Economics came first, second and third respectively.

Trade Wars‚Äì battle of bulls and bears was held on Day 1. What made this event stand out from other mock stock events was that the participants had a chance to try a hand at investing from the prelims round itself. Participants had an option to diversify their portfolio by investing in shares, forex and mutual funds and decipher their analysis based on news and rumours. They also had the chance to leverage their positions with margins and short selling.The participants said that they hadn’t been to such a mock stock before with all the above complexities in one place.

Pirates Ahoy ‚Äì treasure hunt in its fifth season was based on the theme-‘Robbery’, and the participants were given mind boggling maths riddles, confusing picture puzzles and other encrypted data to unveil the real treasure.

Other events on Day 1 included En-Quiz-Ta –the general quiz which saw undergraduates and postgraduates together congregate to battle.  A mixed bag of trivia, identification and FAQ’s based on the incessant business world awaited the participants in the preliminary round. The quiz tested their business acumen and identification skills and was concluded with a rapid fire round.

The first day also saw plenty of marketing enthusiasts participate in ‘The Business Buffet’. With the online prelims and the second round done and dusted, Business Buffet had an eventful On-Campus finale involving the top 10 performing teams who geared up to indulge in the battle of wits. The finalists had to devise their own marketing strategies for companies that did not operate in India. What followed was an intriguing and nail-biting competition amongst all the teams who battled through questions and bore the brunt of the thought provoking and comprehensive inputs from the judges.

The second day was equally interesting.

The major fun event was Futbol-de-Fantasia 2.0– football manager competition. It focused on how a manager should use his abilities off the pitch to get the best out of the players. The Round 1 was quiz followed by the football auction in round 2.

Another fun event of Uddayam was Bolly Bonanza – bollywood quiz where participants showcased their knowledge on Hindi films in various rounds. It received a huge response and the participants had a great time playing this entertaining event.

Vigyapan: Creating Markets– the Admad competition in its fourth edition was successfully concluded. The first round comprised marketing taboo, which required an understanding amongst the team members to guess the word written on chit. The second round comprised a twist in the conventional ad mad where teams were required to negatively promote the given product. The judges had a tough time in judging the rounds as all the contestants were equally entertaining and creative.

Turbulence 2.0 – the Turncoat Debate competition was graced by Ms. Priyanka and Dr. Vardharaj as the judges.

32 Students from various colleges across NCR participated in the first round which included Turncoat Debate and then, Top 8 participants moved to round 2 in which a Press Conference Debate was organized. Sushmita from Motilal Nehru College emerged as the Winner by virtue of her excellent Debating Skills, Nisha stood at position no.2 and Asna stood at No.3.

The road to success comes through hard work and determination and finally , the hard work of the members of Commerce Association paid off.
