College Diaries : Daulat Ram College (DRC)

Daulat Ram College is a women’s college under Delhi University, founded in 1960. Originally called Pramila College, it was named Daulat Ram College after educationist Daulat Ram Gupta. The college commonly known as ‘DRC’ resides in North Campus area, that makes the college all the more demanding during admissions.

Daulat Ram College has 19 departments which offers undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Science. It provides with the best faculty in every course. Also, the college exhibits Foreign Language Course as well as Certificate Course on Women and Development. It offers Certificate/Diploma/Advanced Diploma courses in French/ German/ Spanish/ Italian/ Chinese/ Japanese and Korean languages.

DRC is a pool of various societies and activities that stimulate students to unveil their talents and grow better. It enhances the latter’s proficiency and helps her accustom it to the competent world.

Nescafe is the most happening place of the college where students relax, enjoy and discuss their life events over a cup of coffee with some relishing food.

Rangshala (Amphitheatre)

Newly renovated Rangshala offers a stage to the young students to hone their talent, communication and performing skills. It has been witnessed to many famous events and has provided a forum to many burgeoning artists.

Sadbhavana Bhawan (College Auditorium)

The college auditorium Sadbhavana Bhawan with a large stage and a seating capacity of over 1400 is ideally suited for theatre activities and dramatics with plays having a large cast. All major intra-college and inter-college events also take place in the auditorium.

Hostel

Daulat Ram College hostel founded in 1974, is the ‘home away from home’ exclusively for outstation undergraduate students of Daulat Ram College with an intake capacity of 200 students. Due to limited number of seats, only meritorious students are selected for admission to the hostel.

Apart from various facilities, the hostel provides a comfortable and happy stay for the resident students. The hostel has well laid out lush green lawns and gardens which not only add beauty to the ambience but also help in providing peaceful and conducive atmosphere for studies. The hostel has been winning acclaim and awards for the best environment of hostels in Delhi University. It also has its own kitchen garden.

PRAGATI: WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

“Pragati”, the Women Development Cell of the college, firmly believes in making women as strong as possible in self- esteem, personality and character. It provides a platform for students where they can give an expression to their thoughts and ideas on women empowerment. Pragati aims to generate awareness and educate the students on women rights,status, health and empowerment.

Placement Cell

The college placement cell aims to add value to the young minds of students both in terms of exposure, longer term vision, career choices, key skills required, skill gaps and guidance in overcoming their social exclusiveness.

Pramila- The college magazine

Pramila,the annual magazine/journal of Daulat Ram College is a constructive and collective endeavour of the students and faculty both. It aims at enhancing creative, imaginative as well
as analytical faculties of the students by providing them a platform to express their experiences and thoughts on varied issues. The magazine is a reservoir of various expressions in various literary forms be it – fictional e.g. stories, articles,
poetry etc. or non-fictional e.g. essays, interviews, etc.
So ‘studying in all girls college has no fun‘ is just a myth and there is much more to explore and enjoy in here!
