Seems like the most awaited good news for the metro travelers is here!!
Following up the plans and claims by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to provide concessions to students and senior citizens, the Delhi metro plans to introduce new bio-metric AFC gate system. These new systems will help in reaping multiple benefits for the passengers as well as for the administering system, in terms of passenger identification, profiling and concessions.
After a steep hike in Delhi Metro fares since 2017, the demand for concession in the fare was in the demand list of the passengers, many political parties and student unions. Considering the far and wide cry, these proposals are like a ointment to wound.
According to the Minister, the quantum of the fare concession will be decided by the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC), constituted by the Central government with an aim to revise the Delhi metro fares.
This governmental intervention through technological apparatus is a great relief to the passengers of Delhi metro but the implementation will demand some time in form of physical installation of the system into the ticketing process. Further the implementation will require linking of the smart cards with the individual users, likely to be done through a bio-metric system.
This step is a highly appreciated step toward the establishment of equity in the society where concessions will be requirement based and not a free platter served to all.
