With a dream of becoming an IAS officer, Shweta Chauhan from Ghaziabad, appeared for the UPSC exams in 2013 for the first time ever. She was a student of B.Sc Physics Honors at the prestigious Hindu College of Delhi University.
The results of her first attempt at UPSC exams were not satisfactory to her. She got recruited in Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS). In her second attempt, she grabbed Indian Revenue Service (IRS) but her aim was to get the administrative services.
A lover of music and traveling, Shweta has remained a good student all her life. She scored 94% marks in her class 12 exams and chose Delhi University to pursue further studies. This was her third attempt at the most celebrated examination of the country. And finally, on Wednesday, when the Commission declared results, nothing could match the joy of the Chauhan family.
DU alumnus Shweta, stood 8th in the Civil Services Exam 2016. The best rank was obtained by Nandini K R from Karnataka. According to Shweta, she used to study for 8 hours a day without panicking about the burden. She adopted selective study strategy and believed in enjoying the process and maintaining patience.
Geography was her optional subject for the Mains. A daughter of an ex-army officer, Shweta expected to be among the top 50 students this time but the results gave her a sweet surprise. She also loves playing outdoor games like volleyball, basketball and frequently visits old age homes.
Last year, Tina Dabi, a graduate from Lady Shri Ram College, DU, topped the UPSC exams at her very first attempt.
This year, approximately 11.36 lakhs candidates appeared for the esteemed exam and only 1099 aspirants could crack the three-tiered assessment.
DU Express congratulates Shweta Chauhan for her tremendous success and wishes her good luck for the coming stages.
