Students should be ready to pay more at Delhi University hostels from the coming academic session.
Delhi University’s famous DS Kothari hostel is the first hostel to increase the hostel fee.The hostel fee has been doubled fromINR 1200 to INR 2400 which is the minimum charge.
The agenda passed by the Kothari hostel management committee reads “The committee has decided that an additional amount of Rs 1200 be charged from each resident in order to meet the deficit under the other contract services”. Further, the DU hostel committee observed that in spite of repeated requests the university, has not enhanced the provision under the head other contract services’.
“We have started from one hostel,to check the response. Soon all the hostels will increase the minimum rent” an official told Indian Express.
“According to the news guidelines, we have to pay to minimum wage to the security in which students are also partially involved to generate money. Because the university is not granting fund so the hostel can’t bear to manage. So to meet the resources the students also need to contribute” S.C.Rai, provost,DS Kothari Hostel told Indian Express.
The hostel has also restricted the entry timings for girl students.Girls can’t stay outside after 7 PM while Boys are allowed to stay outside till 8 PM.
