MS Dhoni, almost an hour ago took to his Instagram with an adorable IGTV video that he is going to be retired. He wrote, “Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.” And with his decision to retire, love started pouring in for him. Fifteen years of golden cricketing ends today as M.S. Dhoni announces his retirement.
Dhoni had quit Test cricket in December 2014 and there was intense speculation as to when the “Helicopter” batsman-wicket keeper would hang up his boots over international cricket. The speculation about Dhoni’s retirement intensified when he took a break after ICC ODI World Cup earlier this year. He had joined his regiment of the Indian Army.
Hailing from Jharkhand, Dhoni went on to become India’s most adorned and adored captain. His first achievement as a captain was leading India to the 2007 World T20 title in its inaugural edition. “Mahi” has earned the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (2007), Padma Shri (2009), Padma Bhushan (2018). And under his captaincy, India also won the 2013 ICC Championship Trophy.
Hands down one of the most loved cricketers leaves a golden legacy of cricket behind him.

Suresh Raina follows Mahi
To add on to this when you are about to digest the fact that India will not see Dhoni on the field striking a helicopter shot, Suresh Raina, another senior Indian cricketer, announced his retirement as well. Not much time after Dhoni Instagrammed about his retirement, Raina also announced his retirement via an Instagram post. He wrote “It was nothing but lovely playing with you Mahi. With my heart full of pride, I chose to join you in this journey. Thank you India, Jai Hind.
Aggressive left-handed batsman cum bowler and one of the best fielders in Indian cricketing history, Raina has captained India just as his soul friend Dhoni. Raina is also the first Indian Batsman to hit a century in all three forms of International Cricket. Raina-Dhoni duo has been quite famous and it can be seen that Raina and Dhoni are best buddies or maybe cricket friends forever.
The Chennai Super Kings’ duo, though, is expected to play in the upcoming IPL 2020, for which both of them arrived in Chennai for a training camp ahead of the team’s departure for UAE.
We love you both Mahi and Raina! We will miss you on the field.
