An accident that took place at around 3 AM in North Delhi’s Sarai Rohila area on Wednesday led to the death of a 19 year old Delhi University student and left three of his friends injured.
The deceased person who was also the one driving the car was identified as Shivam Shankar and was a first year student at School of Open Learning, DU.The other companions who were found injured included Kashish (18) and Nitin (18),both of them hailing from Chandigarh and Arensh Shankar.
The police told that they were informed about the accident at around 3 am by a passerby who saw the overturned Santro with four boys inside, which turned after hitting a divider.
The victims were rushed to NKS Hospital where Shivam was declared to be brought dead while the other three were injured, as told by Nupur Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North).
On investigation, it was found out that the youngsters were on their way to Murthal after attending a function at Shivam’s relative’s place in Karol Bagh.Medical reports further disclosed that the boys were under the influence of alcohol.
The car was at a high speed when the driver lost control and hit the divider, causing the car to turn over.
Case of drunken driving has been registered at Sarai Rohilla police station and the investigation is in process.
