A few days back, the University of Delhi declared under a notification about not conducting ECA trials and thus completely scrapping all ECA admissions in this coming Academic session. Since then, not only students but various artists have also raised objections regarding this decision.

Various prominent artists including Sonal Mansingh and Geeta Chandran have written a letter addressed to the Vice President, M. Venkaiah Naidu, appealing against the university’s decision. According to the letter, this announcement has greatly pained the community of artists. With the changing times and now due to the pandemic, artists are already under unprecedented stress and this decision has elevated it. The letter also cited the example of the Supreme Court’s decision for Jagannath Yatra in Odisha by saying that proper measures for social distancing and sanitizing can also be followed in the ECA trials. We must not shun away with everything due to the pandemic and instead find alternative ways.
