Following the admission trail, the scheduled interviews for Mphil and Phd have been cancelled by Delhi University in all the departments subsequently when UGC upgraded the eligibility criteria to 50% in the entrance examination. After students present their dissatisfaction towards the new procedure, Manoj Jha member of Rajya Sabha put forth the issue to be reviewed again.
He mentioned in the house, “The eligibility criteria of scoring minimum 50% in entrance examination for Mphil/Phd interviews has left students, especially from SC, ST and OBC sections, in a state of deprivation. Criteria has been provided in the UGC regulation 2016 for Mphil/Phd. Implementation of this criteria along with introducing online test in a hurried manner has cost students coming from socially and economically weaker background very heavily across universities. The result of DU bears the testimony of social exclusion too.”
With students presenting their discomfort and dissatisfaction regarding this new eligibility criteria and protesting to scrap this norm, cancellation of scheduled interviews have been taken place especially the ones belonging to underprivleged sections of society as they have not been granted with any kind of relaxation in the eligibility criteria this time.
University is planning to make certain modifications in the norms for entrance either by reducing the eligibility criteria or giving 5% relaxation to the candidates under reserved category .
