The University of Delhi is considering to develop a new college in Fatehpur Beri village. Registrar Vikas Gupta said that DU will name its upcoming college after the first woman Chief Minister of Delhi, Sushma Swaraj. “This is a part of our centenary year of celebration”, Vikas Gupta added.

Speaking to The Indian Express over a phone call after the press conference, Gupta had said, “The decision is final and has been conveyed to the Education Ministry.” However, he later said the final decision would be taken in the Academic Council and Executive Council – statutory bodies of the University. A couple of other names have been proposed along with Swaraj’s name. They are Swami Vivekananda and Veer Savarkar.” The college (the name of which is to be finalized) and a facilitation center is to be built at Bhatti Kalan Gaon in Fatehpur Beri.

The name, however, will be finalised by the Academic Council and Executive Council of the University. A 40-bigha land is allotted for the construction of the college. The date for laying the foundation stone has been postponed from Sunday to another day. It has not been finalised yet and will be notified soon. The college to be constructed will be a women’s college. The facilitation center will enable and ease various processes for students of DU. There is a plan to establish such more facilitation centers.

“This is the first of several other facilitation centers we want to open all across Delhi, especially in areas away from the city center. This will be beneficial for students who won’t need to come to the campus for fee submission, document verification, correction of errors in their examination form, or to take duplicate mark sheets, provisional degrees etc.,” said Gupta.
