On 23/12/2020, the University of Delhi (DU) released a notification for membership to the Executive Council (EC) and Academic Council (AC). The two are the highest decision making bodies of Delhi University and are elected after every two years. As per the notice issued by the registrar, elections will be held on 12th February 2021 for membership to the Executive and Academic councils.
Teachers’ Associations have already filed their nominations for contesting the election. However, the final list of contesting candidates will be displayed soon on the website of DU, on 20th January 2021. The National Democratic Teachers Front (NDTF) has nominated its outgoing member, Dr. VS Negi, for the second consecutive time in the Executive Council elections.
For the Academic Council, the organization has put up a seven-member panel which includes Dr. Shambhu Nath Dubey of Atma Ram Santam Dharma College, Sunil Kumar Sharma of Dyal Singh College, Dr. Ashok Kumar Yadav of Shyamlal College, Dr. Naina Hasija of Kalindi College, Dr. Narendra Bishnoi of the Campus Law Center, Dr. Anil Sharma from Zakir Hussain (Hindi Department) and Dr. Sudarshan Kumar of Hindu College.
Dr. AK Bhagi, a professor at Dyal Singh College (chemistry department) and NDTF president says that NDTF’s agenda will focus on many education-related issues such as adjustment/stability of ad-hoc teachers, discrepancies of the Sixth Pay Commission, the anomaly of Seventh Pay Commission, the salary and grant problem in fully funded colleges of Delhi Government. He also mentions that the National Democratic Teacher’s Front has played a major role in initiating the promotion of teachers, pending for more than a decade. He further adds-
“We are not in any mood to compromise in terms of service conditions and government grants of teachers in the National Education Policy.”
