The University of Delhi has directed to all its affiliated colleges to go digital altogether for attendance purpose by launching a mobile app for the same. This new system will also entail student academic record and student life cycle management. This new system enables the students to groove their attendance on regular basis instead of checking it under the wire. The new system is recognized as AMS- Attendance Management System. This proposal has been put forward to maintain the track of student attendance and methodize the attendance procedure in Delhi University.

“In order to bring transparency and primarily to help students so that they don’t fall short of attendance due to which they would have to repeat a complete academic session, the app based online attendance system is being planned.Hopefully,we will have a good experience in the pilot run to scale it to the rest of the colleges and all undergraduate courses,” professor Yogesh Tyagi, DU vice chancellor told TOI.

The main concern that why this system got initiated was to overcome the detention issue which student face due to attendance. As it is compulsory to secure 66% attendance in DU and due to short attendance many students aren’t allowed to write exams. However, many teachers came up with condemnation to this newly launched system expressing their concern over how this system will work when students will be out for some sort of educational trips.

“If the teacher is unable to attend the class for some reason then the interface will record it as absent. There has to be some provision for them to shift their class to a different time,” a Principal of college said when called upon pilot testing.
