DU Student From Manipur Beaten In North Campus After He Objected To Racial Discrimination

A Manipuri student from Delhi University was allegedly beaten up after the student objected to alleged racial remarks made by a group of 10-15 men last week.The incident took place around 2:30 AM when the 20-year-old student Momocha, was returning home to Vijay Nagar.

“Momocha was walking home with four friends. As told by him and other students, a speeding car tried to run over them. Momocha got furious and hit the car with a paper that he was holding. The car stopped and three occupants stepped out but the situation was controlled” said Bibinaz Thokchom, an assistant professor at Ambedkar University and a member of the advisory board of United Kakching Students.

“They made racial comments. When Momocha objected, the men started thrashing him. Momocha suffered critical injuries. The men fled the spot. He was rushed to a hospital. He had a fractured right hand, multiple stitches on the jaw. None of the four others received injuries” she added.

All the students are studying at Delhi University and Momocha was going to leave for Manipur the same day in evening.The students gathered outside Mukherjee Nagar Police Station in the morning at 9 AM and registered a police complaint.
