DU on 23rd June, 2021 (Wednesday) stated that it has taken several steps to augment facilities for a possible third wave by setting up facilities for covid patients, procuring pulse oximeters, temperature scanners, installing oxygen plants, etc. The University acknowledged that Hansraj College and Janki Devi Memorial College have offered to set up efficient and effective covid care facilities with 100 beds each. In addition, one of the campus hostels having 200 beds will also be offered.
In a statement, DU articulated that it will set up an oxygen plant that can fill 50-80 cylinders per day. This will help the members of the University as well as those in neighbourhood.
As reported by THE HINDU (here) in an article, the University of Delhi on behalf of its members stated, “We have a total of 120 establishments in the University, including colleges, hostels, and two campuses. With an average of two concentrators for each unit, we need about 240 oxygen concentrators. Furthermore, for the large number of students in hostels as well as residences, it will be worthwhile to have about 500 pulse oximeters and about 100 thermal scanners,” the statement read.
The University proudly announced the successful launch of three covid testing camps at Miranda House, Janki Devi Memorial College, and Gargi College. It further said that it is planning to launch more such facilities for easy testing process.
FACILITIES
As mentioned by a member from DU, the facilities offered will include beds, medical equipments, oxygen supply, through in-situ small-scale oxygen plants, generators for uninterrupted power supply, medicines, facility for food, and above all, sufficient salaries for all the doctors and nurses looking after the patients. It said, “DU is trying its best to make the arrangements.”
Earlier, the University had also organized vaccination facilities at its three health centres apart from isolation centres being run by Deen Dayal Upadhyay College and Lakshmibai College.
The North Delhi Mayor, Raja Iqbal Singh held a meeting with the DU South Campus head to discuss issues of setting up the oxygen plants.
Amidst the yearly schedule announcement (click here for the calendar), and the release of results for various undergraduate courses, the University is planning to serve the nation by making quite a number of facilities available.
