ABVP today suspended Ankiv Baisoya from the party till the time enquiry against him gets over. The NSUI has alleged that Ankiv Baisoya submitted fake documents to contest elections and he was never a student of the Thiruvalluvar University in Tamil Nadu from where Ankiv claims to have completed his graduation. These allegations were made by the NSUI soon after the DUSU Election results were declared in September this year.
The party has already taken the matter to court and next hearing in the matter will take place on 20th November 2018.
Several questions have been raised on the role of Delhi University in this whole process as the University hasn’t taken up the matter seriously.High Court had to give one more week’s time to University of Delhi on Monday this week to complete the enquiry in this matter.
NSUI has alleged that this delay on the part of ABVP & DU authorities was caused to complete the 2 month period. The Congress backed student outfit has demanded fresh elections.
“We welcome the much delayed decision by the ABVP to ask Ankiv Baisoya to step down as DUSU President. This is clearly a decision under pressure and not principle given the inordinate delay by the ABVP and in light of the upcoming HC order on the 20th, when it is near certain that Ankiv would have been disqualified anyway. This is a sorry face-saving attempt by the ABVP.” said Ruchi Gupta, All India Congress Committee Joint Secretary & NSUI Incharge.
“This decision at this belated hour, when the ostensible 2 months as stipulated by Lyngdoh Committee guidelines are over, is clearly cynical and cowardly. However, while this appears to be an attempt to retain the DUSU Presidentship, NSUI has already clarified that Lyngdoh guidelines are advisory and the 2 month period is also only indicative not binding on DU. Second, even if one were to concede the 2 month guideline for calling fresh elections, legally the 2 months will be counted from when his fake degree was first brought to light by the NSUI, not when ABVP has decided to remove him.” she added.
ABVP on the other hand condemned the delay caused by Delhi University to complete enquiry in this regard.“ABVP is an organization who is always committed to student’s cause. This incident is continuously tarnishing the image of Delhi University Student Union and also raising question on student’s mandate. So we request DU administration to complete the verification process as soon as possible and must produce the result in public domain. We also condemn the delay done by DU in the whole process as it led to many false informations and asked university to do the same with immediate effect And if Ankiv is found guilty then he must face all the legal actions which are expected in this case.” said Bharat Khatana, State Secretary ABVP.
