University of Delhi: Addressing the congruent concerns of the students regarding the plummeted grades, the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) met the Dean of Examinations of the University, Professor Vinay Gupta, with a proposal highlighting the demands of the students across various colleges of the University. Students from English Honors, Computer Program, Economics Honors, etc have lately been pleading the administration to take cognizance of their grievances.
The DUSU Secretary, Ashish Lamba, met the Dean and put forth the grievances and the demands of the students. The backdrop to the meet was the acute fall in the average grade in various courses across different colleges in the University. The declaration of the results witnessed a delay from the usual January/February due date because of the DUTA strikes and was announced as late as in the month of May. While many students saw a drop of 1-2 from their previous CGPAs, there were many mark sheets with an F grade in the core papers. The students launched a mass email campaign directed at the administration but were allegedly rebuked with ‘rude’ replies by the Examination Branch of the University.
The students have pressed their demands such as the absolute waiver of the re-evaluation fee along with an extension of the date of filling the re-evaluation form. The University guidelines mention the final grades (post-re-evaluation) as the average of the original grade and the re-evaluated grade(s) against which the students have been protesting as they urge the re-evaluated grades to be considered as the final grades.
The Dean has, however, asked the students to fill in the re-evaluation form to further the matter. But the last date of the re-evaluation form was May 26 and it has apparently not been extended as of now. The students are, also, distressed as to how they shall procure Rs 1000 for the re-evaluation of each paper which finely amounts to a total of Rs 5000, if he/she wants to apply for a re-evaluation of all the papers. Amidst the challenges being faced by the country in the wake of the pandemic, the students are trying to echo their economic pitfalls as opposed to the “exorbitant re-evaluation fee.”
