As we ruminate on the users interaction with technology across the globe, the past decade witnessed some major changes. According to sources, in 2019 alone, people worldwide downloaded a record-breaking number of 120 billion apps across iOS and Android devices. The app analytics firm, App Annie, reported an unprecedented 5 per cent increase in the total number of downloads as compared to the year before. A 15 per cent growth in consumer spend was also seen.
With an ever-increasing audience, Facebook took the centre stage as one of the top ten downloaded apps in networking. Despite the company having suffered numerous controversies, Facebook still managed to dominate the mobile networking space. “Communication and social media apps are consumer favourites, accounting for 7 of the top 10 apps by downloads this decade.” said App Annie.
While the Facebook user database ran into billions this decade, Instagram bagged the fourth spot followed by Snapchat, Skype and Tiktok to become some of the most liked apps by the users globally.
While social networking platforms took the spotlight, music and video streaming platforms weren’t too far behind. According to a report by the Indian Express, Netflix topped the list of consumer spend for the decade, followed by other applications like Pandora Music, Tencent Video, LINE and iQIYI. While Spotify finished last, Tinder became the leading dating app of the decade and second in terms of overall consumer spend ranking.
