Everybody needs some wholesome content, especially with how difficult 2020 has been. We have had a pandemic, lockdowns, forest fires, mass layoffs, and so much more. So let us not let this year steal some very wholesome things that have happened so far.
Good samaritans helped the looted Mango Seller
If you haven’t seen it already, a viral video showed passer-bys looting Phool Mia 𑁋 a mango vendor in Jagat Puri, Delhi. He had left his merchandise unattended for a few moments. Yet, this terrible incidence had something unique come out of it when good samaritans decided to give him an outpouring number of donations. Phool Mia expressed his gratitude in an interview with ANI, where he said, “This made my Eid.”
Ancient redwood trees survived California’s wildfire
The Big Basin Redwoods State Park, California’s oldest state park, saw a massive wildfire surge through it. While the park has been temporarily closed down due to devastating losses, there has been one positive update from it. The ancient redwood trees, some of the tallest trees in the world, have survived the wildfire!
Africa is free from Wild Polio
On 25 August, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Africa free from Wild Polio. This terrible strain can cause 1 in 200 to suffer through paralysis. Sometimes, it can even lead to death if the patient’s breathing muscles are immobilised. Fortunately, Nigeria saw the last recorded case in 2016.
Same-sex penguin couple adopted a baby together
L’Oceanogràfic, an oceanarium in Valencia, Spain, recently released a delightful press statement. Their Gentoo female penguin couple – Electra and Viola, have adopted an egg from another couple. They incubated and hatched the egg, following which the oceanarium announced that the couple would be raising the baby penguin together!
The World’s first cheetahs have been born through IVF
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium welcomed two cheetah pups on 29 February 2020 through a surrogate mum 𑁋 Izzy. Randy Junge, the Vice President of Animal Health in Columbus Zoo, said, “These two cubs may be tiny, but they represent a huge accomplishment.” There is hope that Vitro Fertilization will help these endangered species bounce back to a healthily sized population in the future.
