ISTORIA’18, the annual fest of History Department, Maitreyi college, was held on 22nd March. The theme of Istoria this year was ‘Dastan-e-Zaika’ which focused on presenting and celebrating the diversity in the culinary world of India. The fest started with an enriching lecture by Former Director of Archaeological Survey of India,¬†Dr.¬†Amarendra Nath.He talked about the food and culinary ware of ancient India from Archaeological perspective. He enriched the students with knowledge of food habits and food-producing habits of Ancient India along with the utensils or pottery found from the excavations in various sites.
The lecture was followed by Mushaira.

They remembered the most veteran and great Urdu shayars and poets of all the times like Sahir Ludhianvi, Saba Abaas Naqvi, Gulzar and many more. In this fourth edition of Mushaira, they once again showed love and respect to Urdu language and its beauty.
It was followed by History On Your Plate where students presented and enriched the audience with the knowledge of their state food. From the deserts of¬†Rajasthan,¬†to the rainy regions of Meghalaya and Assam, from Bihar’s¬†litti¬†choka¬†to Kerela’s idli sambhar, every state stood out and made a special spot for themselves in the hearts of the judges. Every¬†participants¬†gave a detailed information about their state’s staple dishes, it’s history and method of preparing the dishes.
Lastly, there was a poetic drama presented by the students of History Department, Maitreyi College. The theme of this drama was ‘Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaaye’. As we know, any meal is incomplete without sweets, but how these sweets become so important, what was their origin and how today we are losing its importance and history, these questions were answered through this poetic drama on a poem by Vinod Vithall. Along with the sweets, the poem and drama also talked about the current political situation of the nation.
With an extraordinary theme and the fabulous participation that Istoria received, it made the fest a grand success.
