Workload in college just never stops to exist. Be it assignments, projects, internships, fests, internals or practicals – something is always there to keep the students engaged. There’s also cherry on the cake for those who are a part of college societies as they have to manage the extra curricular work that comes along with them simultaneously with their academics as well.

Maintaining a balance between the tasks provided by the societies and the lectures being held in college becomes a challenge for students and they often struggle to prioritize one over the other. Here are some tips which will help you to manage both of them together:-

  • DO SOCIETY WORK DURING FREE TIME

Try to attend society meetings and complete its work when the teacher is on leave and there is ample time available for you to do things which have equal importance as academics. This way neither your lectures will be missed, nor your attendance will be hampered.  Similarly, when you are not doing anything society oriented, you should attend lectures as they are valuable and can provide you 5 marks as well.

  • SET PREFERENCES

Try to decide what is more important at the moment. If you know that a particular lecture holds something important which will help you in the future then definitely go for it. On the other hand, if are confident that you will be able to cover up the missed portions later easily, then you can go for your society meeting. Also, try not to join excessive societies at a given time as it increases mental overload. One should only join those societies whom he finds interesting and manageable.

  • INFORM YOUR TEACHERS ABOUT YOUR SOCIETY WORK BEFOREHAND

If an important society meeting is scheduled during your class hours, try to inform about it to your faculty in advance so that they may consider your appeal and may even grant you attendance for it. If possible, you can even try to get an application signed by your society head teacher and give it to your subject teacher so that they have a proof and can mark your attendance accordingly.

In case you have missed a lot of classes, contact the CR and ask them about the assignment submission and internal dates so that you don’t fail to submit them on time. Also keep checking your class WhatsApp group frequently for other important details.

  • TAKE NOTES FROM YOUR CLASS FRIENDS

Keep yourself updated with whatever is happening in the class by contacting your friends and borrowing notes from them. Try to cover up the syllabus at home and take help from them if you are not able to understand something.

  • MAINTAIN HEALTHY RELATION WITH YOUR SOCIETY HEADS

If you don’t want to miss an important lecture then talk to your society head in a friendly manner and try to convince them that it is something you can’t miss. If you are in their good books they will surely understand your situation and will allow you to attend it.
