DU administration says that this center is a big step towards the government’s commitment to make India a hub of international students. Under this, DU will also get a chance to climb some ladder in the world rankings. DU said that the number of ICCR center sponsored international students taking admission in the university this year is three times more than last year.

DU’s acting Vice-Chairman Prof. PC Joshi, DG ICCR Dinesh Patnaik, and Deputy Dean Foreign Students Advisor Dr. Amarjee Lochan were present on the occasion. Prof. Amarjeev Lochan said that the ICCR center will help in meeting the needs of foreign students.

This year, the number of international students taking admission in DU under ICCR fellowship is three times more. Under this, 50 students took admission in 2019 and this year the number is 150. So far, 650 students have been admitted for UG, PG, and other courses in the academic session 2020-21 in DU. The number was 554 last year. The admission process is currently underway in MPhil-PhD.

DU has received applications from students from 75 countries this time. Most of these applications were from Nepal, Tibet, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Mauritius. Through ICCR alone, students from 68 countries have applied for different courses. Dr. Lochan says, due to lack of a document, admission of any student is not being stopped, all are given provisional admissions. However, due to COVID-19, many foreign students did not get the chance, otherwise the number would have been higher.
