The struggle to get admission into Delhi University for visually- challenged aspirants is real.
Although there have been reservations for them, but that doesn’t not solve the problem there and then.
And, despite the fact that there have been helpdesks set up and volunteers appointed, to assist them, approaching the Equal Opportunity Cell i.e. EOC has still been a challenge.
There have been shuttle services available from the nearest metro station.
Infact, nowadays the helpdesks and active helpline numbers make it possible for disabled applicants to fill up forms at their nearest centre!
Yet there are many drawbacks to this system. Many of them are not aware of such facilities and at times get no assistance even from EOC.
Sometimes, many women do not feel comfortable being shunted by a stranger.
So there is still a long way to go to fully claim that their needs have been recognized.
