best of four calculation made easy this year

Students who wish to pursue BA and B Com (Programme) from Delhi University this year have a good news. While calculating the best of four percentage, students can include a vocational subject without facing any disadvantage.
Till last year, including a vocational subject in these two courses meant a deduction of 2.5% from every subject in the calculation of best of four marks.
For now it means that if a student scores well in subjects like Physical Education,Sculpture,Web-Designing or Painting then he/she can include the marks of those subjects while calculating Best of Four Percentage along with one language and two other subjects.
In case of change of stream like science students who wish to enroll in BA Programme, there will be a deduction of not more than 5%.This percentage will be decided by the college itself.

Till last year, students were not allowed to include a vocational subject in calculation of Best of Four Subjects (BFS) but now the rule has been changed” said a university official.

But the changed rule is only applied on the two mentioned courses and not on others. For all other courses such as BA(Hons),B Com (Hons) the Best of Four Percentage calculation must include one language and three other academic subjects listed by the university.
Also, the list of academic subjects has been widened this year. Legal studies, accountancy,Business Studies are included in the academic subjects list now.
Inclusion of language in the calculation of Best of Four Subjects is important except for BSc (Hons) in Physical and Life Sciences. For Physical Science course, students are required to calculate the marks of Physics,Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) and for Life Sciences it is Physics,Chemistry and Biology (PCB).
Further, there are courses for which the university has imposed other conditions like for B COM (Hons) and Economics (Hons) it is important for students to have studied mathematics in Class 12th.
Including Mathematics marks in the Best of Four Subjects calculation is not mandatory.Business Mathematics will be treated as equivalent to Mathematics for admission to B Com (Hons)/ B Com only.
However,Mathematics marks must be added to the Best of Four Subjects if a candidate wants to study Mathematics,Statistics, Computer Science.
