JNU To Have Hostel For North-East Students Soon : Union Minister

On Friday, Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced that Jawahar Lal Nehru University will soon have a hostel, especially for north-east students. The hostel will be first-of-its-kind with 224 rooms.  He also launched the Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER) ministry dashboard which is a “one-stop centre” for all the informations about the north-east states.

According to Hindustan Times, in the meeting on Friday, Jinendra Singh said, “Out of 224 rooms, 24 rooms have been assigned for ‘Divyang’ students. The remaining rooms will be occupied by an equal number of boys and girls, i.e., 200 boys and 200 girls,” Besides, the minister for the DoNER mentioned that the construction of the hostel has already begun.

Besides, he discussed the status of the North Eastern Cultural and Information Centre to be built in Dwarka in the meeting. This project is one of the Modi-led government projects aimed at the assistance of north-east students. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 94 crores. According to Singh, this north-east centre at Dwarka will act as the cultural and information hub for the north-east students in Delhi.
