M Jagadesh Kumar, Vice Chancellor of JNU said on Monday that the students of the university forcibly entered his house and confined his wife for several hours inside their own home.
He allegedly said that the students from Left outfit entered his house and his wife was surrounded and entrapped.
Several students of JNU have been protesting by going on a hunger strike against the online system of entrance exams that will be implemented from this academic year.
Sources said that the students from Left outfit visited the chancellor’s house last week as well to discuss about the issue after his absence from the meeting but instead of discussing, the students were offered sweets and their concerns were left unanswered.
On Monday, the students entered the house of the chancellor and confined his wife. Police was called and the wives of other professors rescued her, post which she was taken to a hospital as she was left traumatised by the incident.
However, a student from Left outfit denied the accusations and said that students visited the professor’s house but they were manhandled by the security.
“We had gone to his residence to meet the V-C. We were manhandled by security personnel and many students have sustained injuries, including JNUSU president N Sai Balaji,” the student said.
