The counselling sessions for students applying for IITs, NITs, IIITs and other government-funded institutions, conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will begin from October 6.
Candidates who’ve cleared JEE Mains and JEE Advanced can register at josaa.nic.in.
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2020, has been set up by the Ministry of Education to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to 110 institutes for the academic year 2020-21. This includes 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 29 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admission to all the academic programs offered by these Institutes will be made through a single platform.
After registration, candidates must fill their desired institutions, branch and course that they want to pursue. Students who have cleared JEE Advanced can apply for IITs while others may apply for NITs and other institutions. This year, there is no upper limit to the number of courses candidates can apply for. Meanwhile, the registration process for AAT started today, and the candidates can apply till tomorrow. The mock seat allocation 1 will be displayed on October 12 and the mock seat allocation 2 will be displayed on October 14. The registration and choice filling for academic programmes would end on October 15.
A candidate is expected to freeze, slide or float the academic programme offered. By choosing ‘freeze’, you accept the seat allotted to you and withdraw from further rounds of counselling. ‘Float’ means that you accept the seat that has been allotted to you but would want a better programme. Whereas ‘slide’ again means you’ve accepted the seat but you seek for a different course in the same institute in which the previous programme was allotted. Once locked, no modifications can be made in it. Candidates who don’t choose any of the options wouldn’t be able to get admission in this academic session.
The release date of the first allocation list is October 17. And candidates can accept seats through ‘online reporting’. The online reporting session includes a number of tasks to be performed- fee payment, document upload and response by candidates to queries if any. Candidates who get allotted in Round 1 can report online, make fee payments, and upload documents from October 17 to 19. Also, there will be six counselling rounds this year instead of seven sessions.
