Earlier Zoology Students of Kirori Mal College obtained permission from Head of Department (HOD) to organize an event on their gender sensitisation initiative. The event consisted of screening of a film depicting consent and honor killings – Izzatnagar ki Asabhya Betiyan followed by a discussion.
However the permission given on 16th October was withdrawn this Monday. HOD said that it was due to technical defaults however students have claimed that the screening was canceled because administration thinks that the film is too controversial and should not be screened in college.
One of Co-organizers of event told that the screening was cancelled without giving any clear reasons and that administration is against the subject of the film.
However as told by HOD Anita Kamra to TOI the cancellation was due to the fact that they were earlier not informed that an outside organization Bhagat Singh Ambedkar Study Circle was also involved in the event which was otherwise needed to be disclosed.
This is not the first time a film wasn’t allowed to screen in KMC. Earlier in August 2015 ABVP members stopped the screening of a controversial film Muzzafarnagar Abhi Baki Hai by the same filmmaker.
