Since childhood, fighting numerous battles with your inner self, listening to everyone else other than your own conscience, facing the stereotype of the crowd and forgetting your own desire, your own passion in order to win the race, has now become a very common story of almost every youth.
I have seen many parents sending their children to coaching institutes since class 9th for admission to IITs or some government medical college. Is this fair enough to compel your children to pursue a particular course rather than opening their minds and skills to a variety of courses available and waiting for them to gain enough maturity to decide their interests and choice of career?
Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions you make in life. It is much more than just deciding the way of earning money. Your profession is something you have to bear your entire life and thus it should be more of doing something you love rather than working to make a living.
A lot of students prefer to change their subjects of interest as well, according to the placement cell of various colleges they have applied for. Running behind money and packages has now become the sole basis of selecting a career. Bringing home a pay cheque is important, but the size of it isn’t actually a greater predictor of job satisfaction. In other words, you can earn in six figures but if you don’t love what you are doing then it would be hard to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Your personality, interests, values, aptitude make you better suited for some occupation than other people. If you don’t take them into account while selecting your career you may end up in an occupation that is unsuitable for you. Moreover going with other people’s suggestions or following the footsteps of someone else is the worst thing you can do because what was right for them may not be for you. We youth, struggle so much in search of ‘the love of our lives’ but never do we ever care about THIS love of our lives, until after it is too late. Just sit, relax and introspect. Imagine yourself after 5 years, the way you want to live your life, the people around you, what exactly you want to be.
Know yourself, know your skills, your likes and dislikes, your values. Accordingly, find out what is out there in which you can outshine others. Whatever you think you can do or dream you can begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. The day you find ‘your love’ then the ultimate goal left should be to grab it. Go for it, work harder, not for marks, not for money, not for maintaining the self-decorum but for your dream, the love of your life.
Till now, life has shown you its different colours but now it’s your turn to paint your life with the colours of your own choices. Paint your life with the colours of your hard work, passion, dedication, talent and all that you have, until and unless you’ll be able to see a clear picture of your destiny.
