The first ever elections in India were an epoch-making event in the history of our democracy, which marked the beginning of  a new era. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was elected as the Prime Minister and the year 1951 was indeed a memorable and prestigious one.In the same vein,Maharaja Agrasen College created history on 9th September 2016 by holding elections for Students Union for the first time.
The election took everyone by storm as it was a new encounter. Two weeks filled with a jubilant aura had witnessed a lively campus. All the candidates put their best side forward, indulged in a healthy competition with ethical and exemplary campaigning which set standards for the coming years.Various candidates enrolled, which made the competition a tough and a close one. What made the atmosphere outside the college so vibrant was the fact that voter turn out was almost 60%
The voting began at 9 AM and got over by 1 PM.Many students left as soon as they voted but numerous stayed back until the results came out.All candidates and their supporters had their hearts in their mouths till the end. However, all is well that ends well.
Two of the posts , Vice president and Joint secretary were bagged by first year students which tells us how important good campaigning is,they were able to defeat their seniors. The competition on the post of General Secretary was quite a tough one as the winner was declared by a difference of 25 votes and eight candidates were fighting for the same position.
