This week we celebrated Mahatma Gandhi’s 148th birth anniversary but a three decade old statue of him at Campus Law Centre is present without any real glasses and what’s quite shocking is the fact that imaginary glasses have been sketched using a marker pen.

Earlier in the year,Delhi University was so confused about where to spend the UGC  funds which were to be used for infrastructural development but they forgot to put glasses on this Gandhi statue.

DU was sanctioned 300 crores by the UGC to spend on infrastructure out of which 105 crores lapsed this year.

Mohit Kumar Gupta,a former law student and an advocate filed an RTI asking information about the Gandhi statue. The RTI included questions such as date of installation, expenses incurred on its construction and whether any eyeglasses were ever put on it.

“The information regarding the date of installation of the statue and expenses incurred on the eyeglasses is not withheld by this office,” the RTI reply mentioned.

“As of now, no virtual glass or eye-frame is put on the statute, instead ‘imaginary’ eye-frame has been sketched on the statute with a marker pen.” the reply said.
