Manthan- India’s largest Street Theatre Festival organised by Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies

India’s Largest Street theatre festival,Manthan,is the Annual Street Theatre festival oraganized by Verve – The Street Play Society of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies,Delhi University.

Manthan has completed the journey of 10 years.Taking the glory to 11 times this year, Manthan reached 11 states on Manthan Ekadashi including Meghalaya,Delhi,Uttar Pradesh,Punjab,Haryana,Rajasthan,Chattisgarh,Madhya Pradesh,West Bengal,Himachal Pradesh and Orissa on March 11,2018 to celebrate together the spirit of street theatre.Teams performed their plays on the topics like rape,fascism,extremism,drug abuse,women empowerment,stress and many more.

Manthan was started as an effort  to make people realize the immense power each one of us possesses,the power to raise our voices against injustice,to go against the conventions which weigh us down,to fuel the process of change.

The beginning of Manthan was marked with ‘Manthan Mahotsav’ which was organised in 17 prominent locationS of  Delhi where more than 35 teams performed at the same time with the varying questions of similar vigour.

Manthan‚Äôs team believes that to see the change you need to be the change and that is one of the reasons behind this year’s theme which is LIES WITHIN.

With ‘Lies Within’ as their theme,these students want to deliver the message that in current scenario when change is very much needed,the solution,whether it is good or bad,lies within us and we need to bring about change by getting solution from our within ourselves.This young and diligent bunch is not only making an effort to bring the change in their nation but all over the world.

This year Manthan reached nine other countries including Nigeria,Nepal,Canada,Panama, Czech Republic,Zimbabwe,Afghanistan and Kenya.Theatre artists of these countries will be presenting their plays on social issues prevailing in their country like tribal differences, immigration etc.

Events like Manthan are not only working towards sensitizing the population in issues that matter to all,but are also a testimony to the unparalleled strength of young minds.
