New mentor of NCC cadets: DGNCC mobile app

As the sword of COVID-19 continues to hover over our heads, the Headquarters of Director General NCC has introduced a mobile application named DGNCC to raise the spirits of NCC cadets throughout DU, and of course the Indian mainland.

During the lockdown, the training of NCC cadets has been affected adversely as it is mostly contact-based training. Subsequently, the need to teach NCC cadets virtually was felt.

WHAT IS NCC? 

NCC, the abbreviation for the National Cadet Corps is a uniformed youth organization trained to deal with national emergencies and crises. The formation of this subsidiary paramilitary force took place on the 16th day of July 1948 by a committee headed by Pandit H.N Kunzru. NCC has three certification – A (for junior cadets) and B & C (for senior cadets). Right now, the country has 17 directorates of NCC. Moreover, 50 colleges under the University of Delhi offer NCC to students. In addition, NCC stands as one of the ways of getting into the prestigious Officers’ Training Academy (OTA).

DEFENCE MINISTER’S TAKE | NEW MENTOR OF NCC CADETS: DGNCC MOBILE APP

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the Directorate General National Cadet Corps (DGNCC) Mobile Training App. The new mentor of NCC cadets is this very DGNCC mobile app now.

In addition, the Defence Minister interacted with the NCC cadets via video conferencing during the launch of the app and also answered their questions. He wished them success and motivated them to excel in all spheres of life.

In his address to the NCC Cadets, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said “the app will be useful to them in digital learning and overcoming the difficulties posed by COVID-19 due to restrictions on direct physical interactions. But if one moves ahead with determination and self-confidence, he or she would be able to clear all hurdles and achieve success”, he added. (Source: DNA India)

NEW MENTOR OF NCC CADETS: DGNCC MOBILE APP

Cadets can download the DGNCC mobile application via PlayStore. The application consists of six sections:

  • NCC
  • Syllabus
  • Precis
  • Training Videos
  • FAQs
  • Query

The section on NCC gives a brief about the formation of NCC along with its aim, motto, pledge and NCC song. The syllabus section comprises of junior and senior cadets sections respectively. Furthermore, they are divided into Common Subjects, Army, Navy and Air Force, and a special R & V (for senior NCC cadets only). This is the syllabus for the theory examinations of various NCC camps selection and most importantly, Certificate-B and Certificate-C theory examination. Likewise, a précis is more of a summary or abstract of the important theoretical aspects of the NCC curriculum. Videos on the drill, guard, national integration, general awareness and various other topics are ensembled under the “training videos” section. “FAQs” section consists of the basic information a cadet needs to have about their wings/divisions. Under the “query” section, cadets can enter their doubts and grievances and HQ DG NCC will clarify them.

ROLE OF COLLEGES IN IMPARTING KNOWLEDGE TO NCC CADETS

Various colleges across the University of Delhi have started taking virtual NCC training sessions. In one such college – Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women, the theoretical aspects of NCC are explained through virtual platforms every Saturday and Sunday. in addition, the colleges have laid emphasis on using this mobile application judiciously.
