Night Curfew hits Delhi as COVID cases rise

With a steep rise in COVID cases, a night curfew hits Delhi as a veiling precaution against the novel Chinese virus under a night curfew. Earlier, a night curfew hit Delhi back on New Year’s eve.

For the second surge of COVID-19, this is the Delhi government’s one of the most stringent orders.

MEASURES FOR THIS TIME | NIGHT CURFEW HITS DELHI AS COVID CASES RISE

A proposal to bring back the curfew was sent to the Chief Minister’s Office on April 5 after deliberating with the government officials over an upward-sloping graph of the cases.

On that very day, Delhi recorded 3,548 fresh cases and 15 deaths. Besides, large gatherings at restaurants and clubs at night were taken into account. On April 3, 173 people were prosecuted, including owners of 13 banquet halls, 58 restaurants, and three nightclubs. (Source: The Indian Express)

In a statement, the Chief Minister of Delhi validated health-sector soothsayers’ prediction of a curfew given a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases. The curfew will start at 22:00 IST and will come to an end at 05:00 IST every day. Furthermore, this will go on till April 30.

Above all, it was explicitly made clear that essential services and retailers selling perishable goods will be allowed to pass. Also, this will include people commuting for getting themselves vaccinated. In addition, press reporters from the print and electronic media will be allowed to pass.

DELHI’S FOLLOWING THE SUIT | NIGHT CURFEW HITS DELHI AS COVID CASES RISE

On April 5, the number of cases in 24 hours crossed a whopping one lakh for the first time in India.

Earlier, the Indian states of Maharashtra and Rajasthan had launched night curfews to constrict locomotion in the middle of a spike in the cases.

Maharashtra has announced a weekend lockdown and a tough 20:00 IST to 07:00 IST curfew. However, Rajasthan’s night curfew is from 20:00 IST to 06:00 IST.
