Nirbhaya Case : SC Rejects Convict’s Juvenile Claim

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the plea filed by convict Pawan Kumar Gupta stating that he was a juvenile when the crime was committed. Nirbhaya’s mother, Asha Devi slammed the rapists for delaying the execution process and said that they should be executed “one by one”.

The date of execution had been shifted from December 22 to Feb 1.

“Once again, another nefarious design to save himself from the gallows has ended. Their tactic to delay the hanging has been rejected by the Supreme Court. I’ll be satisfied only when they are hanged on Feb 1”, she told news agency ANI

She also stated that they are wasting the Court’s time by filing pleas one after the other.

Badrinath Singh, Nirbhaya’s father also stated that this was nothing but a tactic of the convicts to delay the process and Supreme Court has the power to stop all this.

Yesterday, the top court rejected the convict’s plea of death row challenging the Delhi High Court order which had dismissed his claim of being a juvenile at the time of committing the offence.A bench comprising justices R Banumathi, Ashok Bhushan and AS Bopanna dismissed the plea of Pawan Kumar Gupta, and upheld the Delhi High Court verdict.

A Delhi court on Friday had already issues fresh death warrants for Feb 1 against the four convicts Vinay Sharma, Akshay Kumar Singh, Mukesh Kumar Singh and Pawan.
