NSUI Leader Akshay Lakra Blackens Veer Savarkar’s Bust In North Campus

National Students Union of India (NSUI) leader and Delhi State President, Akshay Lakra, blackened the face of Veer Savarkar’s bust installed at Delhi University’s Arts Faculty.

The incident happened late night around 3 AM. Akshay first put garlands around the statue of Bhagat Singh and Subhash Chandra Bose. After that, he put a garland of shoes around Savarkar’s statue and also blackened his face. Lakra and his supporters were later seen raising slogans of “Bhagat Singh Zindabad” and “NSUI Zindabad”.

The statue was installed by Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) President Shakti Singh without taking permission from the University.ABVP has directed DUSU leaders to keep the busts in DUSU office till the time permission is granted by Delhi University.

“The incident which took place at night is highly condemnable. The act done by NSUI person is a heinous act and this is what shows about how Congress thinks of its freedom fighters. We will make sure that we present the truth of these NSUI people before everyone. And, in the context of this highly condemnable act, ABVP demands the administration to take strong action against those who are involved in insulting the statue of this great freedom fighter.” said Monica Chaudhary, National Media Convenor of ABVP.
