Digital Health IDs for Indians
Every Indian will now receive a digital health ID as part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. The government has stated that “people would now be only a click away from accessing healthcare facilities”. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will thus play a significant role in the digital health ecosystem, similar to how UPI revolutionized payments. This initiative will provide all Indians with a digital health ID. The PM also stated that “every citizen’s health record would now be digitally protected”. He further emphasized that “digitization will make healthcare easier.”
Every citizen’s health ID will also “serve as their health account,” according to the government. Personal health records will then be linked and examined through a mobile application using the ID. However, citizens will need to consent to enable their “longitudinal health records”, according to an official announcement reported by NDTV.
The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission
On August 15, 2020, PM Modi announced the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission pilot initiative from the Red Fort ramparts. The pilot phase of the initiative is currently underway in six union territories.
People must now become aware of the specific aspects of the digital health ID, as well as the procedure for obtaining one. The ID can be constructed using Aadhar Card or the beneficiary’s mobile number. Pertinent health records can then be pulled out using the ID in times of requirement.
Using a Health ID is the first step in creating safer and more efficient digital health records for a person and his or her family, according to the National Health Authority’s official website. One can choose to develop a digitally secure Health ID. This will allow them to access and share their health data with participating healthcare providers and payers with their approval.
Anyone interested in participating in ABDM and having their health records available digitally must first create a Health ID. The ID will be a randomly generated 14-digit number. It will be used to identify people, authenticate them, and then connect their health records.
How To Register
The National Health Authority website has laid down the procedure for obtaining a health ID. An Indian will need to self-register on the Health ID web portal or download the ABDM Health Records app from Google Play Store. A person can also request the development of a Health ID at a participating health facility. This includes public and private hospitals, community health centers, and health and wellness centers throughout India.
Required Documentation
A citizen can choose to make their Health ID through their mobile number or Aadhar card. For the former, date of birth, gender, address and mobile number are required. The latter will require name, birth year, gender, address, mobile number and Aadhaar number.
