Political Science Department, Zakir Husain Delhi College Organises Two Day Conference on Mahatma Gandhi

Political Science Department of Zakir Husain Delhi College of University of Delhi organized a two-day international conference, “Mapping the Global Legacy of the Mahatma: Reflections on Politics, Religion and Culture” on 24th-25th January to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Indian Council of Historical Research and Indian Council of Philosophical Research were the main sponsors of the academic event.

At the inaugural ceremony, Principal, Dr. Masroor Ahmad Beg reminded the audience of the culture of peace, harmony and love that the college promoted in its 300 years history. Over 40 participants from several Universities across the country presented their papers. Academics from India and abroad revisited the legacy of Gandhi and shared their research on their respective field of study on Gandhi. Apart from the plenary session, several technical sessions were held simultaneously at different venues in the college.

All the technical sessions were conducted thematically on themes ranging from ‘Gandhi and Religion’ to ‘Gandhi and Development’. On first day of the Conference, the sessions were followed by cultural performances presented by the music, dance and theatre society of the college. The two day program concluded with the vote of thanks by the convener of the conference, Dr. Ravi Ranjan.
