Printing Contract Ends, Delhi University Unable to Give Degrees to Graduates

Delhi University graduates since 2017 have not been able to gain a copy of their degrees. This occurred because Delhi University has ended its printing contract due to alleged mistakes in the documents. The same tender was in place for consecutive years. According to sources in the Times of India, the officiating dean of examination D.S Rawat cited printing mistakes as the reason behind cancellation of the contract.

There has been no official convocation since 2017 because of the lack of degrees. This causes problems for students who need their degrees to apply for further studies in universities. Some students moved the High Court against the University on July 7th, 2020. Consequently, a portal was set up by the University to confer digital certificates. These certificates would be given to all those who had graduated since 2017. Sources have also said that Delhi University has tried to renew its printing contract. Consequently, printers were asked to send in tenders but the response was measly.

College officials have said they were unaware of the reason behind the sudden disappearance of degrees. This motion was brought to notice only after some students moved the High Court. This has caused additional problems for the college administration as they now have to send in details of all graduates to the University administration since 2017. Graduates of 2019 also have to give their photographs.

Delhi University was given a list of thirty thousand students but has only given digital degrees to twenty-three of the petitioners. This sudden ending of the printing contract has put students in a paperless limbo and has caused problems for students and officials alike.
