Prof Yogesh Singh appointed as new Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University

Professor Yogesh Singh who is the ex-Vice Chancellor of Delhi Technological University (DTU), has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi. He is considered to have a close association with the RSS-backed teacher’s union called Rashtriya Shikshan Mandal, which raised questions of doubt regarding the secular nature of his background. 

Additionally, the Ministry has also appointed Professor Neelima Gupta as the new Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Hari Singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya. This institution of higher education is located in Madhya Pradesh. She is currently engaged as the Vice-Chancellor of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University.

President Ram Nath Kovind, who is the Visitor to Central Universities, approved the decision for the appointment of these two Vice-Chancellors. 

The decision was made known using the platform Twitter.

Background to Professor Singh

Prof Singh became a part of DTU in the year 2017, prior to which he had served as the Director of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology from 2014-2017. Before this, he had been working as the Vice-Chancellor of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda between the years 2011 and 2014. He was also the Dean of Information Technology at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University or IP University as it is commonly called, from 2001 to 2006. 

This goes to show that Prof Singh has had a long-standing experience in the field of administration blending with academia.

Prof Yogesh Singh has a Mtech (Electronics and Communication Engineering), and PhD (Computer Engineering) from the reputed National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra. 

Alongside his several crucial responsibilities, he is also associated with multiple initiatives and societies. He is a fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineers (IETE). In addition to this, he is also a member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Furthermore, he is a lifetime member of the Society for Technical Education (ISTE). 

In the year 2021, Prof Singh had been a member of the General Council of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the Governing Council of the Association of Indian Universities. Before this, in the year 2011, he had served a tenure in the capacity of a member of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)’s Central Regional Committee in Bhopal.
