“Going to Delhi University was¬†the biggest mistake of my life”-says an ex¬†DU student awaiting result of exams.

The third year students had taken up this bitterly unfortunate pass course paper; Sociology of Contemporary India in which 400 students from various colleges like Kalindi College,Shivaji College, Janki Devi Memorial College,Rajdhani College and many more from various courses like Maths Honours,English Honours,Political Science Honours had failed during May/June Semester Examinations 2015. There was a revaluation process in which only 15 out of 400 had passed.

“We have first division aggregate marks and the university expects us to be careless with a pass course paper as easy as it was-child marriage and sati pratha and all those childhood stories”- says a student who doesn’t wish to be named.

However, the preference was given only to current sixth semester students forgetting the fact that ex students have already wasted an year or more and this delay will result in loss of another academic year.

Because of the DUTA boycott of the evaluation process, students who failed the sociology paper last year during May/June 2015 Semester Examination are a worried lot since the delay in results mean they won’t be able to take admission in the course of their choice if they aren’t able to submit the documents within the stipulated time. From holding protest to filing an online petition to HRD minister Smriti Irani, students have tried it all during the last 12 months. “Re-evaluation was done last year but only few off-campus college students passed the exam” said a student.

Various attempts of writing to Delhi University Teachers Association(DUTA) president,Nandita Narain went all in vain as students have got no response from DUTA’s side.

Studying in a reputed college brings great expectations. Nobody was aware about such late responses from teacher’s department and closing their ears when the students are pleading for justice to get over with graduation and go ahead with post graduation degree. “A top class university like Delhi University should have the provision for a re-examination within a month or two,not waiting for a one whole year as it hampers the admission to universities for further studies.Even when students get through masters admission process, they are rejected at the interview level because of unavailability of legal documents and unanswerable situation.” said another student.

“The delay in result this year is going to put another year at stake. With failing us last year in a pass paper they already have wasted one year and will be wasting this year as well as the results have not been declared yet. They are clueless whether their evaluation process has started or not which shows full ignorance and irresponsibility. Many of the ex students fear sitting down this year too at home all anxious and depressed.” said Bismee from Shivaji College.

“They ignored us, refused to mention about us like we are some dirt of an old gutter that the university detests very bad. I feel disregarded and detested. It’s been such a stressful year sitting at home gazing at walls” -says a student

Also, the incident lost it’s glory in the hearts of suffering students who were once proud of studying in Delhi University. They fear how they played with their careers and the question arises ¬†”WHAT IF THEY DO THE SAME THIS YEAR TOO?”
