PLOT

Revolving around the first-ever historical civilian-powered aviation mission, Bhuj: The Pride of India brings to screen a captivating plot but in a haphazard manner.

IAF squadron leader Vijay Karnik watches in horror the destruction of Bhuj airbase from the ground and musters the strength to gun down a few planes with a tank. He orders a clearance of the area after 40 IAF officers bite the dust in the attack. Here, Devgn is seen a little less emote.

On the other side of the border, Heena Rehman, an audacious Indian spy discovers a devious plan of the Pakistani army. In an attempt to pass on the information to Sqn. Leader Vijay, Rehman gets uncovered and is eventually killed.

Somehow, he gets the information that the Pakistani army is eyeing the Bhuj post and plans to capture it in the next 48 hours. He has only one option that is to re-build the post but with only 120 officers and the absence of technicians, this seems like an impossible task.

In addition, Ranchordas Pagi, who is recruited as an agent for R&AW, passes on wrong information to the Pakistani troops failing their attack miserably.

Another under-the-shadow appearance is of Kelkar as military officer R.K. Nair. His love for a specially-abled woman and fearlessness in the face of the enemy hasn’t been brought up much to the screen.

Coming back to the plot, Sqn. Leader Vijay then takes the help of a female leader – Sunderbans. She along with another 300 local women and other villagers builds the airbase within a day!

Qismat star Ammy Virk’s performance as Flight Lieutenant Vikram Singh Baj Jethaaz is laudable. The demise of his wife runs in a flashback while his plane dives into the sea bursting into debris and smoke clouds. While his plane carrying 500 soldiers survives a damaged front wheel, a safe landing sounds out of the question. But Sqn. Leader Vijay comes to his rescue and makes his plan’s front landing gear cradle on a truck. Thanks to the VFX!
