Delhi University Students’ Union Vice-President Shakti Singh of the ABVP took over as the students body’s President while the NSUI on Wednesday said the matter is sub judice and accused Singh of forcing his way into the office.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea by Congress-backed National Students Union of India and the DUSU President nominee from NSUI Sunny Chillar challenging the election of DUSU ex-president Ankiv Baisoya for allegedly furnishing a fake bachelor’s degree to get admission in the university.
Akshay Lakra, State President, NSUI said “ABVP’s star goon and DUSU Vice President Shakti Singh along with his fellow hooligans barged into the DUSU President office by breaking the lock and man handling the security staff. He even went further by abusing the University staff which intervened. It is sheer contempt of court when the matter still lies sub judice how can he enter the office and go forward to claim the post and writing his name on the President’s board. NSUI strongly condemns such shallow and immature act by ABVP members”
“The Petition which was filed by Sunny Chillar, NSUI for having the re-elections, is rejected by the court.Delhi University is not saying anything on this topic. Also, the DU administration doesn’t want that the student activist should work for the students of DU and there is no initiative from them at all” Monika Kalher of the ABVP told DU Express.
“According to the Lyngdoh Committee if major post of office bearer falls vacant within two months of elections, re-elections should be conducted, otherwise the Vice President may be promoted to the post of President. And since its more than two months, re-elections can’t be conducted and that is why Shakti Singh has claimed himself as the President of DUSU and officially the powers of the President should be transferred to him.” she added.
She went on to further say “This is just a symbolic protest from Shakti Singh and DU should take it seriously, DUSU cannot run without the President.”
It is to be noted that no official notice has been released by the Delhi University administration yet to promote Shakti Singh as the President.
