Gender stereotypes still prevail in our contemporary society. Gender notions and attitudes are still the same as they were 50 years ago. Blue is still the color for boys and girls are still supposed to wear Pink. Even if we do not support the so called gender stereotypes, it still impacts us in many different ways.
You can be anyone you want.Yes!!!You can be a leader, an astronaut, a teacher, a scientist, a model, a designer. You can be anyone you want and still be a girl. You can go out in the world in pursuit of following your dreams and achieve everything you want. You don’t have to be a man to be what you want to be. You are a woman and that’s enough.
Gender roles and stereotypes have not only been the barrier for women but also, at the same time they’ve set some rules for men too. We can’t break rules for girls and women without breaking the rules for boys and men. Our society has set some rules for boys and some rules for girls and some of these are:
Unlike women, Men can not wear pink, can not cry, can not be emotional, Kind, sensitive and the list goes on…But it’s not what it is. You too can be who you want to be. You may not be a breadwinner for your family but who knows you might turn out to be a terrific Homemaker.
So don’t let your gender constrain you. Because sex is what you are born with but gender is what you choose to be.
So let us all break the stereotypes and for once lets not care about the society and care about ourselves. For once let us not be the boys or the girls and the men or the women. let us be equal and follow our dreams in whatever fields we may want. Let us all break those stereotypes.
