Spread the Warmth- A Brilliant Initiative Taken By Students of SRCC

As many as 11,715 Indians have lost their lives over the past 15 years–between 2001 to 2015–due to “cold and exposure”,according to the Open Government Data (OGD) Platform of Government of India.

8 people die of cold every night in the nation’s capital, Delhi.

When the whole nation couldn’t do much about this, students of Shri Ram College of Commerce excelling not just in academics but also in extra-curricular activities came up with a solution to this.

Spread the Warmth is a pan-India cloth collection and distribution drive initiated by the students of SRCC. The campaign spans across seven major cities namely Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Patna, Chennai, Kolkata and Siliguri.

The initiative has been undertaken by two of the second year BCom Hons. students of SRCC namely Sanchie Shroff and Shiv Kumar Bansal.

To add more utility and amplify the reach of the project, team STW has collaborated with the Future Group. Big bazaar had been their collection partners. They placed the collection boxes in

74 retail outlets across the seven cities till 10th January, 2017.

On the 8th of January, 2017 team STW conducted a doorstep collection drive in Rohini, Sector 9. 70 volunteers from different colleges of the DU circuit took part with a lot of regard and enthusiasm in this drive. Together these students covered close to 800 flats, collecting 7.75 quintals of clothes in just 4 hours. The total collection in Delhi and Siliguri has currently crossed 3 tonnes. The campaign is going on across various schools and colleges till 15th January, 2016. The collection by the end of this drive is estimated to cross 6 tonnes.

door collection drive of spread the warmthWith a team of over 35 members and with the support of other esteemed organizations like Safexpress, Goonj, People for Animals (Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre), Lions Club, Enactus SRCC, NSS etc., team STW has embarked on a journey to impact thousands of lives across the nation. The homeless will no longer have to fear the harsh winters if more and more people spread warmth every winter!
